ICT in teaching – E-learning

The amount of e-learning tools available for teaching English are innumerable, especially for grammar. Many of these programmes that are often available online are really good, as students can practice their skills independently with focus on their individual problem areas. However, the main problem is that these programmes are a bit boring in the long run and resemble more drill than exiting interaction with the language. Currently, our two children enjoy playing Sims 3 a lot and I could imagine that this would be a great game to incorporate into language teaching, since players go through a number of everyday situations, such as shopping, cleaning, gardening, raising children, etc. In this manner, especially vocabulary could be trained in an interactive way – which makes it a lot easier to remember the words, as they are linked to actions (albeit not real physical action) and well-known situations.
